After market additions, such as electronics or handicap equipment, may need to be specifically added to your auto policy in order to be covered.

Following are some guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Equipment permanently installed in the vehicle where the manufacturer originally intended it to be installed is covered (remember to save your receipts).  Some examples include CD players, speakers, and radios.
  • Electronic equipment permanently installed in the vehicle but NOT where the manufacturer intended it to be installed may be covered up to $1,000 with valid receipts.  Some examples include subwoofers, amplifiers, and CD players.
  • Equipment, such as handicap accessible or any other custom furnishings, will need an additional customized equipment endorsement in order to be covered at the time of loss.
  • Equipment not permanently installed in a vehicle is not covered, such as portable GPS units.  For items such as these, your company may offer optional coverage for a loss, as these are considered personal items in your vehicle.

You put a lot of extra effort into making your vehicles fit your needs. We can help you decide how to get the complete coverage you need.  Call us at 888.850.9400.
