Hurricane Sandy did her best to put a damper on Halloween. No matter when trick-or-treating is scheduled in your town, please share safety tips with your friends and family:

• Wear costumes that fit well to avoid impaired vision, trips, and falls.

• Don’t trick-or-treat alone.

• Use reflective tape on costumes and bags to be more visible to drivers.

• Carry a flashlight while trick-or-treating so others can see you.

• Look both ways before crossing the street and always use crosswalks if they are available.

• If you have to walk on the side of the road, walk facing oncoming traffic.

• Only visit well-lit houses and never go inside.

• Don’t accept rides from strangers and stay alert of your surroundings.

• Inspect all candy before eating it, and don’t eat anything homemade.

Pay attention to town notices, and weather reports. Stay safe and have fun this Halloween!
