SPACE HEATER SAFETY TIPS
With the rapidly changing temperatures, many people are looking for ways to supplement their heating costs. Space heaters are a common choice however they are also the reason for thousands of fires and casualties across the country. If you choose to use a space heater in your home, offered below are some simple tips that can drastically reduce your chances of an accidental fire.

1. Carefully check the heaters for frayed wires, broken wires, or frayed insulation
2. Be sure the plug fits snuggly into the outlet
3. Always keep heaters on the floor
4. Keep heaters at least three feet away from flammable materials (bedding, drapes, furniture)
5. Never lay clothing on heaters for drying
6. Children and pets should be kept away from heaters
7. Turn off heaters before going to bed or leaving your home
8. If you must use an extension cord, be sure to use one that is marked #14 or #12 AWG

While keeping your family and home warm during the upcoming months is necessary, keeping them safe and alive takes precedence.
